Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 quick review: The South Korean smartphone brand Samsung has undoubtedly mastered the flexible display technology and created the best portable mobile phones with the big screen which also gives you a tablet-like feel. The first foldable smartphone from Samsung was launched in 2019 and in the last 3 years, this South Korean Smartphone brand has committed to bringing the best folding smartphones in the market for customers around the globe.
Now, the company recently launched the most-awaited smartphones of the 2021 - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G with improvements that address nearly all of its predecessor’s faults, while also adding new features that make it an even better and true hybrid. I reviewed the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G Phantom Black color variant with S Pen Fold Edition and here's what I have to say about this newly launched incredible piece of tech from Samsung.
When it comes to foldable technology in the smartphone segment, I can say that no one can beat Samsung as of now. I have used Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 as well but the Galaxy Z Fold 3 has taken the foldable technology to a whole new level. At first look, you are going to fall in love with the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The matte finish design looks beautiful, and the rear camera module placement is also much better than the Galaxy Z Fold 2. This foldable device looks gorgeous in hands. Undoubtedly, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 feels more sturdy, durable, and premium than the predecessor. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 weighs 271.00 grams.
Most importantly, folding and unfolding the device was smoother and easier than the Galaxy Z Fold 2. It measures 6.2 x 2.6 x 0.56 to 0.62 inches when closed and 6.2 x 5 x 0.25 when open. The Phantom Black color looks premium and beautiful. Thanks to t the matte finish, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 does not attract a lot of fingerprints. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes with a 7.6-inch primary QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a screen resolution of 2208 x 1768 pixels. On the front side when unfolded, Fold 3 includes a 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a screen resolution of 832 x 2268 pixels and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. One of the most notable changes to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the secondary selfie camera on the inner display.
The company managed to hide it with the help of their under-display camera technology. As for the quality of the camera, the secondary selfie camera is not as good as the hole-punch camera placed on the cover display. Also, when folded, the smartphone enhances your viewing as well as a gaming experience. Plus, the faster screen refresh rate ensures a smoother transition between tabs and the quick loading of apps. You will experience even smoother scrolling on both the Main and Cover Screens.
Galaxy Z Fold 3 Camera
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes packed with a triple rear camera system and sports a 12MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture, a 12MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture, and a 12MP camera with an f/2.4 aperture. On the front, the smartphone has a 10MP primary camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a second 4MP camera with an f/1.8 aperture. When it comes to camera performance, I felt that viewing pictures on the 7.6-inch display gives you a better idea.
With the larger screen, you will be able to find a better frame and focus on the subject. The triple rear cameras of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 did manage to capture beautiful and sharp pictures in various light conditions. Selfies clicked from Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 were sharp and colorful when we compare it with other smartphones. While taking pictures and recording videos, I didn't face any issues. Overall, the device did produce nice and clear images under direct sunlight, bright light as well as low light conditions.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 - Performance
In terms of performance, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, making the device suitable for heavy use. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 runs on Android 11-based OneUI 3.0. While playing games like Battlegrounds Mobile India, Garena Free Fire and Call of Duty: Mobile on this device, we experienced lag-free gaming here. The graphic quality on the advanced setting was excellent.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 was fast, smooth, switching between the apps and using multiple social media platforms was easy and the experience was up to the mark. Audio performance is a big plus here if you plan to buy the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. The bottom speaker did produce high-quality sound while playing games and watching videos. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 enables easy multi-tasking. One can stream something on one screen and at the same time, use the secondary display to reply to your messages, notifications etc. Also, the transition between the screens was smooth. This foldable smartphone from Samsung is impressive when it comes to performance. Battery-wise, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 didn't disappoint as well.

While watching videos on YouTube, movies, web series on OTT platforms on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 5Gduring the review period, we did not face any heating issues however, on heavy usage, the battery life is average as it drained quickly during heavy gaming sessions.
