In a blogpost WhatsApp said: "Today we’re sharing updated plans for how we’ll ask WhatsApp users to review our terms of service and privacy policy. We previously encountered a great deal of misinformation about this update, and we continue to work hard to clear up any confusion. As a reminder, we’re building new ways to chat or shop with a business on WhatsApp that are entirely optional. Personal messages will always be end-to-end encrypted, so WhatsApp can’t read or listen to them.

Here is what will change for users and what will not

WhatsApp Privacy Policy:  What's Changing

*It has said that support to talk to businesses on WhatsApp will be entirely optional. Users can interact with companies and brands on WhatsApp only if they want and it will not share number of users with any company/brand, it said.

*Another change is that if a user chooses to click on ads shown on Facebook/Instagram, it could be used to personalize the ads you see on Facebook, but neither Facebook nor WhatsApp can see the content of any end-to-end encrypted messages.

WhatsApp Privacy Policy:  What will not change

*Your acceptance of the new Terms of Service does not expand WhatsApp’s ability to share user data with its parent company Facebook, says the company.

*Users chats will remain end-to-end encrypted as before. Message will remain between sender and recepient. The company has made it clear that all the messages and media files shared among users will remain end-to-end encrypted. Implying, neither WhatsApp nor Facebook will be able to read your messages.

*Talking to businesses will remain optional. WhatsApp has reiterated that the company will not share users’ contact details with businesses and the policy prohibits businesses from contacting users without their approval.

*You will be able to block any brand/company anytime on WhatsApp

* WhatsApp remain firm as far as acceptance of new terms of service is concerned. Yes, you account will will expire if you do not accept WhatsApp new policy. If users do not accept the new privacy policy by the end of May 15, the new deadline to accept its policy, they will no long be able to use their WhatsApp account.

Not changing: No banner ads in your WhatsApp

WhatsApp doesn’t allow third-party banner ads on its platform. It states that as of now, it has no intention to introduce them. “But if we ever do, we will update this Privacy Policy,” adds the company on its website.
